A gift from Patrick White for having successfully revived his play A CHEERY SOUL, on the day I was invited to direct Britten’s DEATH IN VENICE for the Adelaide Festival. Hearing the news, Patrick went to Watters Gallery and there was LIDO – seemingly waiting. Sometimes fate appears disguised as co-incidence.
