Conductor or Boxer?
I’ve followed Bill Henson’s wonderful art from early analogue portraits through vast retrospectives in public galleries to digital installations. Artists often yearn to be something else – writers secretly want to be painters, etc. Bill is no exception. Knowing Bill’s classical music enthusiasm, I imagined this as young Bill, orchestral conductor. Releasing his inner Simone Young, as it were. Bill mightn’t agree and this ecstatic body suggests many things. All of them sensual, obsessive, compelling.
