The original streetwise Broadway Musical.
The HAIR logo billboarded productions in major cities around the globe. I directed a few, including Sydney, Melbourne, Boston and Tokyo, and saw many others. I recall the visceral power of the original cast at New York’s Biltmore Theater, drawn from the streetwise NYC underground theatre movement. HAIR replaced showtunes with rock music and revolutionised the musical, like WEST SIDE STORY before it (Jazz), and HAMILTON after it (Rap). It redefined the Broadway musical.
