There’ll always be Paris.
Like any Francis Bacon painting, this major retrospective at the Grand Palais wasn’t short on drama. It established Bacon’s international fame but the backstage story of his partner’s untimely demise provided the springboard for Stephen’s Sewell’s stage portrait of Bacon, Three Furies, which I directed for the 2005 Sydney Festival.
