Maketi Ples 2015 Exhibition
Now in its fifth year, Maketi Ples, the contemporary Pacific islands art exhibition and ‘market place’ presented by Pacific Islands Trade & Invest and Shapiro Gallery, returns to Woollahra this August.
Maketi Ples is a term coined from two words found in every-day language in the Pacific Islands region. “Maketi” is a Samoan word for Market. “Ples” is a Papua New Guinea tokpisin word for place - Maketi Ples is simply expressed means market place.
With pieces by artists from across the Pacific Island region, this year’s collection features some of the most exciting contemporary visual art, textiles, 3-D artisan works and homewears from the region’s leading and emerging artists.
- Visual art – drawing, painting and printmaking
- Textiles – traditional textiles and hand printed modern fabric
- Basketry and Weaving – from rural artisan communities
- Wood work – highly crafted artisan pieces
Saturday 29th August 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
